Metzger update
As you know, Metzger had a serious crash at his house yesterday. I
have
spoken with his agent, Lucas Mirtl, and he asked if I would let
everyone
know what is going on and that he is sorry he can not answer his
phone. His
parents are also very thankful for everyones concern, but are trying
to
focus on Mike. The initial results were a few broken vertebrae in his
back
and neck, collarbones and a lacerated kidney, but was stable last
night. At
6 am this morning his vitals quickly dropped as gas deteriorated and
his
liver is now bleeding out. He has had 2 blood transfusions today and
is now
in the ICU in "critical stable" condition. The doctors hope the liver
will
start to heal itself and won't require a risky surgery. Please keep
Mike in
your prayers.

and

Just got back from visiting my nephew Mike in ICU, the report in 500
guys
post from Mike's agent Mirtl are pretty accurate. The doctors are
taking a
wait and see approach for the next 24hrs to see if he will need
surgery or
not.

As we all know Mike's a tough, strong guy but he could use a prayer
from all
of us just the same.

Mike Metzger Injury Update
Temecula, CA 7/18/11 – Official Press Release - On Saturday July 16th
while riding at his home training facility, Freestyle Motocross
professional Mike Metzger known worldwide as the “Godfather of
Freestyle Motocross” suffered a crash. Mike was transferred to a
trauma care facility and in now in excellent care.

The family and Mike are very gracious for everyone’s support and
curiosity, but there have been a ton of rumors and false stories
circulating the internet. “I was feeling good so I wanted to get a few
jumps in to get ready for X Games. I missed a seat grab is all. Just a
little mistake. Thanks to everyone for the positive thoughts” Mike
Metzger. At the family’s request and the requirements of the hospital
there are no visitors permitted, repetitive phone calls to the
hospital are an aggravation to the staff as well.

The facts of Mike’s current condition are that he remains in stable
condition is fully aware and coherent and is making improvements
daily. There are no signs of paralysis and he has movement of all his
extremities. There are currently no surgeries on schedule and Mike’s
body is working hard to repair itself. Dr. Chao and Dr. Nelson from
Oasis Sports Medical Group are also looking in after him as they have
done work on Mike in the past.

The Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF) is on location with Mike and his
family and is making arrangements to assist with the financial burden
of this injury and the upcoming rehabilitation. While ARF is not the
end all solution to insurance and definitely not a replacement for
insurance the experience of our nonprofit has earned us an education
of how to work with hospitals, doctors and physical therapists. Bottom
line ARF will help Mike so he can return to his bike stronger than
before. Donations can be made to support this 501(c)3 Charity at
www.athleterecoveryfund.com.

Mission Statement:

To provide professional athletes in BMX, FMX and Skateboarding with
financial support after a severe injury and granting funds for
rehabilitation, equipment, long-term disability and educational
scholarships
