I just got a crf230f (2005) and I need to adjust the shock for my weight
since the thing was set up for a heavier rider. I tried a drift punch
and hammer to no avail. Any hints?
Thanks

Get a bigger hammer? The dealer can probably get you a dedicated tool
but it will need force too. Are you sure you are hitting only one of the
two locking rings, in the right direction? Ther are two rings that lock
together so if the notches are lined up it could look like only one, and
you won't move them both together if they are tight..

OH, I could do the 105 footer, but I would hate to waste the last few
seconds of my life with my eyes closed, screaming like a little
girl...;)

Exactly what he said. Not familiar with that particular bike, but all
the Japanese bikes I've worked on are as he described with a locking
ring on top. KTMs will use a clamping screw on the newer models. Make
sure you're driving it in the right direction and that the threads are
as clean as you can get them.

Thanks, I got it moved with a bigger hammer :) Also used a micro-sized
butane torch to heat the upper ring. Maybe that helped some.

Good, I never even thought of heat;) I suppose if I were working on it
as long as that I might have, hope so anyway... Good riding.
