First, apologies in advance for the lack of a detailed ride report.
I've spent the past 5 weekends clearing trails and marking routes.
Next weekend is the MOAR, and I've got a ton of bike work to take care
of before then.
We successfully completed our first AMA event out of Walden, CO. Day
1 A loop was 145 miles, of which about 40 miles was wonderful single
track.
The scenery could not be topped. Verdant green fields laced with
world class trout streams and surrounded by snow capped peaks.
A few highlights:
While sweeping the A-loop, we found an F650 rider who missed his turn
on the B-trail and wandered into a A-loop, where he sounded the dive
alarms and hydrolocked his bike. Ironically, he was towed out by a
KLR650.
One rider took a helicopter ride. With a concussion and 4-5 broken
bones, he was released from the hospital that day. None of the
injuries should be too serious.
The gas stop worked out very well. We had a large tank in a truck to
avoid hauling individual cans.
Nobody got left on the trails. The F650 was the only bike I knew that
had to be towed out.
Despite the short notice, we had riders from many states away.
Some of the B-riders were cursing one of my trails. (I wanted to see
folks "stretch" a bit so they would know what to expect if they tried
the second day).
I was all set to clean the worst hill on the second day and was foiled
by forgetting to turn on my gas. Doh!

Ayup. The standing plan will be the third weekend in July.
The facilities worked out really well. RV parking with an
unobstructed view of the Rawahs. Walden has a free RV dump and and
some really good places to eat if you want to dine out.
I'm aleady starting to think about next year's route. I'm hoping for
less water & snow.
