I'll speak for her tho... :-)
Tami says hi. Because she doesn't have a laptop & has to keep her foot
elevated, she hasn't been able to get on line. She told me to say hi to RMD
for her. She is in good spirits and had a follow up Dr. visit yesterday
after I talked to her.
She still isn't sure how many pins/plates/screws are in there. I hope she
gets some good X-rays to post.

Crap, you go on a trip for a few weeks, mark everything "read" and miss
a lot. What happened? A point to a post is good enough...

Never mind, I found the whole thread. Jesus! Get the bone-density

Hey, everyone! Thanks for the kind words and wishes.
I had surgery on Tuesday July 1st. I spent the night in the hospital,
and barely escaped having to spend a 2nd one. I wanted to go home,
although I was reluctant to leave the morphine pump behind. They had
to pry my fingers off that precious little button after I signed my
release papers.
Anyway, the procedure went well according to my surgeon, and it hurts
less now than it did during the 3 days when it was flopping around
broken. I ended up with 2 plates and 13 screws, with the 4 incisions
closed with about 60 staples. My surgeon gave me an x-ray for show-and-
tell, but it didn't scan very well. I'll try to clean it up when I can
sit at the computer for a longer period of time. I'll be in this cast
til Aug 7th, then they'll see if I can go to a brace. I should be
ready to start some weight-bearing in mid-August and then towards the
end of August I should be walking on my own with a cane and the brace.
Seems excessively conservative to me, but I'm not the expert here.
I delicately broached the subject of putting off our vacation when I
was in the hospital. Eric didn't say much (he never does...) and even
though I know he really doesn't want to put it off, he said we should
just wait and see what the doctor had to say. My doctor wasn't too
keen on me hobbling around a dirty campsite on crutches, especially
since I have 4 wounds that aren't closed yet. I can't ride, of course,
that's a given; But I can't even walk on my own, nor will I be able to
get into the rivers or hot springs, which are always a highlight of a
trip to ID. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun for me...or for Eric. If
we can get Joe Dowd to haul Eric around on the Clearwater trails in
late August and/or early September, we'll probably do that.
I really like my doctor and he's talked to me about bikes every time
we've met face to face. He knew what I was talking about when I told
him I had a Husky SM610 (he wanted to know what kind of bike I'd be
riding when I asked him how long it would be til I could ride again)
and he told me a really funny story about the first time he ever rode
across the Bay Bridge in the wind on his way to Stinson Beach. I have
a lot of confidence in him.
Anyway, I'm at my limit here. Gotta go put my ankle in the air and
take it easy.
Joe, I don't have your number, but Eric wants to talk to you about
some late-summer riding opportunities. If you wanna give us a call,
that would be great.
