Since JayC's postings convinced me to avoid GasGas, I'm looking
for another make. I don't want it for competition, just something
to handle the steep grades and rough terrain here in the British
Columbia (Canada) coastal mountains.
What I'd like is a modern equivalent to my '85 Yamaha TY350 which
I recently sold to finance another project. It was reliable, simple
(ie, air cooled 2-stroke without lots of plumbing), light weight
(approx 100 kg) with power to spare. Any help appreciated.

What he said plus http://www.rypusa.com/ is Ryan Youngs website.
the other heavy hitter in the trials scene.

FWIW- In March I bought a used 04 GasGas 300 Pro. I have little that
needed done on it. The rear tire was not sealing right, got that fixed and
the hydraulic clutch needed to be bled. I have ridden it without problems
besides those things. Haven't put a ton of time on it but I have enjoyed
it.

Don't let Jay C's ranting fool you. His problem wasn't primarily that
he bought a GasGas, it was that he bought a used 125 that was clapped
out. In no way should the GasGas line of trials bikes be avoided
simply due to Jay's experiences with his POS 125.
