While I love the "crushed beer can" look that my XR has taken on over
the years, I decided to go for something new and different. I call it
"Kate Moss".

Gusset project --

after (still kinda during, actually):

Of added interest, the gusset material is from the same futon frame
that I made the stand (last weekend) that the bike is sitting on.

Wow, those are some HD gussets.

I can only assume that you ran the proper FEA simulations prior to making
these mods?

Warning: now that you have really strong gussets, two things may happen.

1. Your frame will be much more rigid.
2. As a result of increased rigidity in some areas, you will transmit more
stress to other areas.

Looks like a very worthwhile & satisfying project. My XRL really needs a
frame-up restoration. I shudder to think of what I might discover under all
the layers of dirt & oil.

Adding more steel to the XR - try "Mama Cass".
