This is where I went riding yesterday. The video is the first lap of
a hare scrambles held there at the end of August. Temps at starting
time were ~98F.
I haven't ridden dirt other than on the trials bike in close to a year
and this place has a lot of wide open stuff as well as some first gear
tight stuff. Not much in the way of elevation, but LOTS of places
where you can find top end on any bike made. And hold it there for
longer than you're comfortable.
Sandy soil in the open areas and black loam in the woods.
Not necessarily typical for northern NC or VA, but fairly typical for
southeastern NC.

Good video! There has been lots of dust at the races as the summer
got later and the fall got drier.
This clip shows typical Mississippi/Louisiana singletrack.
It's helmet cam footage taken by AA rider Stephen Reed's wife,
Carolyn, as she raced in the second test of the Oct 10 Bear Whiz
Enduro. The location is in the DeSoto National Forest outside of Camp
Shelby (Hattiesburg, MS), with part of the course running through a
tank firing range.
She is definitely improving.
