As if I need another hobby or thing on my to-do list...

I got a:
Dean Performer E (acoustic electric) in transparent power purple
http://www.deanguitars.com/home.php

An 18 foot Fender California Cable

And an Orange Crush 15 amp
http://www.orangeamps.com/products.asp?Action=View&ID ’

I have no idea how to play.
I can make feedback though!

"These executives have plooked the fuck out of me
And there's still a long time to go
Before i've
Paid my debt to society.
And all I ever really wanted to do was
Play the guitar
'n bend the string like:
'reent-toont-teent-toont-teenooneenoonee'  "

Sounds like better equipment than I have.  I have relegated my playing
into "That's suck's" catagory, but oddly enough, palying sooths the
beast within and I need that badly these days.

Yep, me too. It'll probably be nothing more than a little creative
outlet to let off steam.

I bought the axe new for my daughter a few years back, but she didn't
play it. I asked he if I could borrow it and it was "loaned" to a
friend who probably thought he'd keep it forever.

It came back with some minor damage and a thick layer of dust. I've
been learning about cleaning it correctly. And when I went to get
guitar polish I saw the amp on sale for a C-note. I guess I got
impulsive.

rock on dude.

I spent years trying to learn to play the violin, but it finally won.  If I'd
used earplugs I probably would have enjoyed the listening more, but the actual
playing was definitely therapeutic.

I am NOT being modest -- I have a piss-poor sense of pitch and lousy
small-muscle control.  I guess I should have chosen a bass drum...

I know this came up once in email but I don't think I asked... did you take
this up as an adult or as a child? My wife and I have been attending
concerts at my daughter's college for the last few years and what I have
seen so far is appealing. Since I will probably be looking for new ways to
fill my time, music is interesting and wonder if you actually can "get
there" as an adult.

I resented to some level the classical organ lessons until they were done
when I figured out it was a squandered opportunity. My left thumb and index
finger are messed up from my recent stupidity-fest and will probably kill
any plans to actually use a guitar I bought 5 or 6 years ago. I'm way
liking viola and trumpet (have two, for some reason) music recently but do
you learn these things as an adult or do you just learn to accept
frustration? I have a piano in the LR too... maybe the question is, are
some instruments more able to be usefully played with as an adult than
others?

Lost interest in the concertina idea after losing 3 straight auctions on
them.

In case you have an opinion on this...
