As I just suffered through one, I am naturally reminded of RMD.
Pursuant to previous discussions of 2-strokes and oil ratios and lean
running and gasohol... A person who's opinion I respect a great deal, with
more hands-on experience than any other 5 people I know, suggested I take
my 50:1 mix down to at least 32:1 and preferably 20:1. When I suggested
that could make the engine run lean, his reply was that the oil burns
too.... that gas has 125k btu/gal, alcohol is 75k btu/gal and oil at 140k
btu/gal... that the alcohol leans out the mix but that the oil doesn't.
FYI. I'm back to 32:1. Later.

Fuel oil (diesel fuel) does, in fact, have 140kbtu/hr. Don't know
about motor oil or two-stroke mix oil. Interesting thought, however -
you monkeywrench thrower. I have an 80cc and 2 125cc 2-stink
motorcycles, a 42cc chainsaw, and a 32cc weedwhacker, and I run 32:1
in all of them. You didn't say why your friend recommended 20:1, but
evidently, testing has shown that peak output power increases with
additional oil up until 16:1 or so.

Happy New Year to you, Mike! I can not wait to get out riding again!
Pete called and he wants me to abandon my driveway and take a long
ride up north this summer. I would like it very much if you could join
us!
BTW - I *never* run 50:1. It is just too lean, even for the magical
mystery synthetic oils of today. I'd rather waste oil and build carbon
than accelerate wear on internals. You know how much I hate
wrenching...

Abandon the driveway?!! They don't take the faces off of Rushmore you know!
COOL invite. Call me interested. You do know my conservatism soars once I
get out of urban traffic? Also... seems we just passed the 10-year
Anniversary of something called "the Hell Ride" in this house:) You guys
aren't going to try and snooker me into a bike and body shredding exercise
are you?:)

Same boat!
Happy New Year to you and the family!

wife to ride it! Whoo Hoo!
