Not really OT, if I use it to hit RMD.

Anyway, my only choices for 'broadband' are satellite (I've already
rejected that option) or wireless.

I cannot get cable, fiber, or any flavor of DSL.

Verizon 3G supposedly covers my area, and will run me $50-$60/month.

Anyone use anything similar?

No, but you may be able to get it cheaper if you're good at haggling.  I've had
Charter cablemodem service at gthe "introductory temporary special" rate for
years. When the rates go back to normal I make a phone call, tell them that
their service isn't worth their full price and that I'm going to quit as soon
as I make other arrangements.  Sometimes this requires more effort than at
other times, but has always been ultimately successful.

i tacked on a usb dongle thing that talks to the internet via the cell phone
system...
it's marginally faster than dialup... that being said it did work i did not
have the issues of being conserned about wardrives hopping inbetween my
signal and the neighbors/coffee shop/airport wireless network, it ran about
40 bucks a month for unlimited.

the usb dongle would burn out about every other year and need an upgrade....
the other issue is most computers have a power saver mode that shuts usb
ports down when not in use, this meens that you have to yank the dongle out
and plug it back in once and a while so that the computer remembers it's
hooked up to the thing... when other folks call you up and ask why it's not
talking to the internet 9-10 times it's the dongle went into hibernation...
diabling the powersaver/energy star mode fixes this sort of...

i have another idea i'll send to you off line
email me... <grin>

Dongle is a funny word.

Does your dongle dangle?

What is the average size of a dongle?

Please do not tell me it is a black dongle.

Thank you,
