My F250 diesel truck started running poorly a week or two ago, so I
took it to a Ford service dept. that's really close to where I work.
It's also where I purchased the truck 10 years ago and where I've had
the major services done.
Here is the estimate they gave me.

ICP sensor $174.05
8 injectors at $305 each
2 valve cover gaskets $83.12 each
2 valve cover harnesses at $88.96 each
and 10 hours labor at $80 per hour
for a grand total of $3800

For that much money, I wanted a second opinion, so I took it to an
independent diesel mechanic this morning. He just called and said I
need the ICP sensor, but he can't find anything else wrong with it. No
bad injectors.  The part is $175. He hasn't told me how much the labor
will cost, but I'm sure it will be somewhat less than $3800.

I can't speak to the rest of the crap, but these are those big rectangular
(generally cork) gaskets that you SOMETIMES replace when you pull the valve
covers, right?

And these are the things that keep the plug wires from flapping around?

I hate dealers.

Well...ya see......Ummmm...errrrr....maybe you *shouldn't* have spoken about
the rest of the crap after all....always go with yout first instinct! :-)
:-)

Love ya Bev

So either...
A) The 'tard hooked it up to the 'puter and all the codes flashed to a bunch
of unnecessary crap or
B) The 'tard wasn't smart enough to decipher all the codes correctly and
wound up with this list of unnecessary crap or ,
C) The stealership was really out to break one off in ya....

I think I'll go with ... D) all of the above.

I spoke with the mechanic before he worked on it.  A and C are
probably correct.  The bad ICP caused the other codes.  He should have
replaced that, cleared the codes and checked again.

Dennis, find out from someone at the dealership, I want to know why you need
new plug wire holders (valve cover harnesses), on a diesel...  lol
