A friend's YZ250F was having idle problems recently.  We've been
through the carb pretty completely.  Installed a JD Jetting kit,
cleaned it thoroughly, new throttle cable, etc.  All made incremental
or significant improvments, but it would still idle high and/or not
drop back down to a "normal" idle frequently.  Last weekend, it would
pretty much just die if not under a load.

Problem: clogged vent tubes.

Just one of those accidental, lucky things that is now part of routine
maintenance...  I think I can get about 10' of the crap (with a
motorcycle picture on the label) at Cycle Gear for a couple bucks.
Maybe even in really bling colors...

Hmm.  I just use Bel-Ray waterproof grease on all bearings.  It too
has a picture of a motorcycle on the label, I think.  When you say
lithium grease, are you talking about the white grease in the spray
can?

The lithium stuff I get comes in the same kinda tub as Bel Ray grease I
also use,  You can get your hand in there and finger up a big ol glob
of it.  Mostly I use it on the seal of my air filter.  Yea I still do
that.  I use Bel-ray waterproof stuff on most of the bike.  Not sure
why the steering bearings had the white lithium grease on em but they
did, and they failed.   The top bearing was fine.  I don't think the
grease itself failed, it was still all over the failed bearing and
seemed to be its normal consistancy.  There was some grit in the
bearing.   The place I ride alot always  has standing water.  I suspect
I got water/grit inside the steering stem and the seal on the bottom
allowed water & grit to stay long enough to penetrate and trash out the
lower bearing.  I also had to replace a lower shock bearing.  It has a
combination of Bel-Ray/molybdium grease like the rest of the rear
linkage.  It was dried out.  I should have re-greased it mid season.

I've got it on the camera, but no way to get it off.  New batteries
charging for the digital camera now...

Give me a minute...
