I've just bought a pair of second hand Oxtar/TCX Comp MX-boots that I
paid NOK 600 (equal to approx. US$ 90) for, and that is virtually almost
brand new as you don't need more than one hand to count on the fingers
how many times the previous owner have used these...

I'm just wonder if someone have some experiences with the Oxtar/TCX
brand (compared to other major MX-boot brands)...?

I wore some Oxtar TCX Comp boots for a couple seasons. This was just
before they changed their name to TCX, which always struck me as a
curious move. It seemed to me they had built some name recognition
with the Oxtar name, which doesn't happen overnight. And the TCX name
just sounds generic to me. Perhaps the oxen complained. What a bunch
of bull.

I liked the boots, but I had a fit problem that probably can't be
blamed on the product. I gave them to Chip when they were two seasons
old. His boots were about two decades old so he was psyched. I think
he likes them just fine. The quality seemed very good to me.

Support in the USA would be through Helmet House.

All Right!!! It's great to see you again, Stig.

The new TCX boots are supposedly really nice. One fellow from
Minnesota had a pair, and really liked them.

Here is my story concerning TCX.
My first pair of Sidi boots are almost seven years old, and getting
in bad shape (The Gorilla Glue holding them together is now coming
loose along the side of the foot.), but are more comfortable than the
second/last pair of Sidi boots I bought, (which are still in good
shape, but the left foot seems to have shrunk soon after I bought them
over three years ago.  Some  of you may remember the "boots in
restraints" photos from me trying to expand the feet of the boots.)
All my older boots are REALLY worn out, and unusable.

I'm sorry for rambling, but I thought I'd illustrate why i just
purchased a pair of TCX boots on closeout for $99.95 from Bike
Bandit.com.
They are obviously not the newest, latest offering from TCX, but are
heavy and built robustly.
I put the new TCX boots on and wore them around the house for a
little over an hour one afternoon last week.  The foot part was
comfortable. Then, working trail as Saturday, I wore them while riding
for the first time.
I wear a 12.5 double wide boot. These TCX are Eur 47, which is the
same size.  While suiting up Saturday morning for trail work, I found
that the boot's upper was a tight fit with my knee/shin guards inside.
I found out just how tight when both my calves started to cramp 15
minutes into the ride. (I put a foot down to cut a face slapper, right
on a sketchy spot of off-camber sidehill, and the cramp kept me from
supporting the bike. The Husaberg and I fell over and went about 6'
down the hill. :-)
Hmmmm...   the straps were not long enough to give me more room
there, but I was able to re-fold the innards to allow me to more
neatly close the boot's uppers, which did give me a little bit more
room at the calf.  This stopped the cramping.

Other than that, and that they were really stiff at the ankles, my
only problem was that the toe was large and did not easily go  under
the Husaberg's shift lever. (between it and the footpeg).
Since it was so hot working trail, I stopped at a cool clear
mountain stream and waded around a bit. (The boots leaked.) That felt
so good that I laid down in the creek until I cooled off completely.
(It was 96F.)
I think that the boots loosened up some while riding and working
trail after that, but I'll have to wear them again to make sure.
Sunday, I wore my oldest pair of Sidi Force SRS boots, since I was
back on the Husaberg.

The boots will be fine if I can get some longer straps for the
uppers, and move my shift lever to accommodate the large toe area.
They are much better protection than anything else I can normally
get for the $100 range. (I know that they originally retailed for much
more.)

I'll try them while putting up arrows on Saturday, riding the '06
DE300, but  I think I'm going to start saving my money for a new set
of Sid Crossfire SRS boots.

Maybe I am still rambling.   I'm getting excited about checking out
my newly modified suspension.

Good Riding to You! And, don't be a stranger.

Jim
