I've got a '93 350 Trail Boss with 1500 miles on it that I am
suspecting may have an engine, or perhaps, an exhaust pipe overheating
problem. My temp warning light doesn't come on but it seems that lately
my right leg is being exposed to more heat than normal and the fan
kicks in more often than it used to. Is this normal? Anyone have any
suggestions as to what the engine temperature should be at, how to
check if the water pump is functioning properly, etc., etc.? I'd like
to make sure there isn't anything wrong that will eventually result in
a melt-down.

It's a Polaris kwad. It is supposed to run hot. Real hot. The hotter,
the better, in fact.
You are probably not reving it up high enough. Try pinning the
throttle in neutral for 10 or 15 minutes to clean it out and see if
that helps. Or maybe you just have too much oil in the motor. Try
draining 1 1/2 quarts out of it out and then go for a nice long trail
ride. Or just bring it to a MX track and shoot for some big air. That
is probably what it really needs to be broken in correctly, anyway. I
have observed many kwad pilots spinning their machines around
mercilessly for hours with the throttle wide open. That seems to help.
If it is dry or dusty out, remove the foam thingy in the plastic box
under the seat. That thing just clogs up the motor and keeps it from
running at full power. It will also make it run hot.
Merry Christmas.

Me thinks you forgot to mention a deep water manuver...

This machine isn't babied when it's driven...... believe me! I'm
looking for a little more technical advice. I don't have a problem with
it being "loaded" up with fuel or anything like that. The engine runs
fine.
