WILTON - The investigation into the death of a 13-year-old off-road
motorcycle rider last month has identified "a group of people of
interest," Wilton police said yesterday.
Capt. Michael Lombardo refused to characterize the group, but said, "I
think we're making some progress."
Police said yesterday the teen, Nicholas Parisot, died after striking
a rope tied between two trees. Police previously had said he struck an
object in the trail he was riding June 13 but did not identify it,
pending results of an analysis by the Connecticut State Forensic Lab.
The results, received Thursday, are "somewhat" helpful, Lombardo
said.
Nicholas was riding his Honda off-road motorbike on a North Wilton
trail when he struck the rope, which police believe was intentionally
tied across the path.
Asked what action could be taken against anyone found to have placed
the rope on the trail, Senior Assistant State's Attorney James
Bernardi in state Superior Court in Stamford would not comment.
"It's something that's pending, and that's really all I can say,"
Bernardi said.
Using GPS tracking, police determined that Nicholas was riding on
private property when he crashed.
As the investigation enters its fourth week, police continued to
collect evidence and conduct interviews, Lombardo said.
Besides the rope, police seized several other items that still were
being analyzed by the forensic lab. Lombardo would not say what the
items are or where they were found.
"Two weeks ago, we were optimistic, but sometimes these things take
longer than we would like," he said. "We don't want to leave any stone
unturned."
Nicholas was found by a fellow rider, police have said, and
transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A
spokeswoman for the chief medical examiner's office said Nicholas died
of neck trauma.
Nicholas graduated from Middlebrook Middle School the day before he
died and would have begun his freshman year at Wilton High School in
the fall.
The death of the teen, described as well-liked and easygoing, rocked
the community. Westport police estimated 2,000 people attended his
June 18 memorial service, held at Unitarian Church there. On Facebook,
the group "In Loving Memory of Nick Parisot" has more than 1,000
members.
