As many of you know, we need to get into a new bike. You may also know
we have a habit of buying the wrong bikes.. This is our last shot for
a while so we want to get it right.
We are looking at the Kawasaki kx100 and here are some of the reasons.
We ride motocross, at a real track (ctmotocross.com) and have been
riding on minibikes and trail bikes all year to some disadvantage. We
have been told in the past to get the biggest bike The Mouse can stand
on and that is the KX100. Of course it is a real MX bike with pretty
decent suspension, 2 smoke (which The Mouse wants for some crazy
reason). One of the members of the board for NEMA (local kids racing
circuit) has seen The Mouse race and also watched and rode with her at
the track here locally. He has a pretty good handle on her skills and
suggested the KX 100. Knowing that The Mouse will be racing in the
womens C class against 125's and even some YZ 250's and doesn't feel
she would be competitive enough on the 85, but then again she is not
tall enough to stand on a 125 yet. She has had the opportunity to ride
on several bikes in the last couple of weeks including a KX85 and the
Honda CRF150R. She loved the KX but although I thought she handled it
fine, she thought the CRF was a little heavy and much for her.
Any suggestions or comments will be considered, but we are going
shopping in a few hours, so if you think we are on the wrong track,
please pipe in fast;) Of course you are all fast;)
Rowdy Mouse Racing, You can't keep a good Mouse down;)

For some reason I thought the mouse was a small kid? Racing against
250s?

Yeah. She is only 4'10" tall at age 14 so age restrictions keep her
from racing the kids who are physically here size. She races in the
Womens open class, and sometimes in the supermini's when she was on
the TTR with 14 and 16 inch wheels, but was not eligable for points,
just for fun. She knows it may be a while before she can compete with
some of the lifelong riders she races against and is cool with that,
but we want her to at least have a chance.

Scott,
First off, I am sorry to hear about the theft of the Mouse's TTR. I hope the
bastid(s) pull a Bon Scott someday. Secondly, having followed your threads
(great dad btw) I think the KX100 is an excellent next step. Plenty can be
done to the bike to tone it down at the onset and boost performance as the
Mouse's skilz and confidence improve ride after ride. A good used bike would
be the greatest value and leave more money on the table for mods, but at
least with new, you usually know what your buying (TTR clutch issues
notwithstanding). There are several good values available here in the N.
Georgia market. '02-'06 models ranging from $1K to $2K.
The next step for my boys is a fully suspended smoker as well. Our decision
has waffling between the 85 and 100 because the older son would likely
outgrow the 85 before son # 2 grows into it.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Forget about the other bikes on the track if they're lumping all the girls
together like that. Concentrate on what fits her best right now. Don't make
her "grow into" something she doesn't LOVE. If the 85 fits her much better
than the 100, it's plenty. She will have a lot of fun with a two stroke and
decent suspension. If she can handle the 100, that sounds good. Either one
could probably smoke that 150 in the right hands (I'm guessing).
Remember it's about fun, and the trophies are plastic.
