Sturd Ranch and Raceway Mini Bike Classic 2008
A fair turnout on a perfect day. Heavy rain the Friday
before meant that only a little watering was necessary.
A breeze and temps in the high 70's low 80's made
for nice weather for race day.

During practice, the dude tried to take out the starting
lights.
Timed qualifying determined the makeup of the amatuer and
pro races. The amateur race went off first with the winner
going to the pro race. Mike K got a good start after the Dude
nearly took out Pete M. Pete ended up going through the middle
of my asparagus patch. See the pices
The Dude gradually whittled away at Mike K's lead and finally
got by. The last two laps Mike M and Mike K both broke. Pete
M went from last, to second, fell (no I didn't water the track
in front of him, he fell before he got to the water) and went to
last, then got back up to second. Bill Szewczyk looked awesome
for the oldest guy we've ever had racing.
Pro race was close. Stevey and Griffin got away first with
Sturd right behind. Griffin got sideways about lap 3 and
Sturd got a better drive to force his way by next corner.
Then the three ran close with the gaps going back and forth
until they ran into lappers. Last lap, they caught Speedy
Pete with two corners left.
Pics
"Speedy Pete didn't see the blue flags" - Stevey is right next to
Pete and hidden, Sturd right behind. Griff is about to come into
view from the right.
"Uhh-ohh" you can see helmets - from left to right Sturd going
inside of Stevey, Griffin looking for a hole, Stevey leaned in trying
to get inside of Speedy Pete, and Speedy Pete trying to
keep whoever is behind him behind.
"look close" too bad the camera was in autofocus.
When Stevey went inside Speedy Pete, he hit Pete's
bars, stuck his foot out to save himself from falling,
right into Pete's front wheel. It tore Stevey off
his bike but somehow he didn't fall. Pete went straight
over the bars when his front wheel stopped and Sturd
had a set of engine cases in his face. He had tried
to cross to the outside when Stevey and Pete hit
and instead found Pete laying across the track. You can
just see his front wheel going airborne over Pete's back.
Stevey is on the left, behind a twig, trying to gather it
back up. Griffin tried to miss the carnage and fell before
hitting anything.
"stevey gets away first", stevey gets away first. Sturd is
going, he didn't really fall, and Speedy Pete is looking for his
bike. Griffin said later that when he finally woke up and got
going, he didn't know where anybody had gone.
Much eating, drinking, cussing, and tall tale telling ensued
thereafter.
Go fast. Take chances.

Looks hella fun, Mike. Little bikes are big fun, aren't they?

That was my favorite too. Great form.
That man seems like role model material.

Yeah, that one caught my eye too. The combination of work boots,
levis, no goggles and knee wedged between handguards and number plate
is a classic
