Hey guys!

I have a 1997 KX250, and find myself to be trail riding more and more.
I have the correct springs for my weight but the bike tends to bounce
around on the trails. Since I'm nearing 50 years old, and don't
really go crazy or get much air while on the MX tracks, I was
wondering if the Race Tech Gold Valves would suite my purpose. IOW's,
would they help smooth the ride on the trails without too much being
affected on the track since I ride like a wuss (not much air, small
whoops at most, snail-like speed) on the track anyway?

Also, is it necessary to revalve both the forks and shock or could one
try just the forks first? (Sorta give the valves a test run...)

I'd love to hear any and all advice from anyone with experience with
the Gold Valves! Thanks!!!

PS. Of course I was thinking the standard GV Kit - not the SX kit!
;-)

I like GVs, mostly because you get to do your own revalve. You
basically want to remove most of the damping in both directions -
expecially the high speed compression damping. Before messing with
that though, start by turning both compression and rebound clickers
all the way out (on both ends). Report back after the test.

1997? So when was the suspension last serviced? At the very least have
you changed the fork oil?

I would say its a safe bet your shock is past due for service. Very
likely you will be happy with a fresh shock and forks without major
changes such as revalving.

Then again while they are in there it doesn't cost much more to revalve.

Oh no! The bike's a '97 but I've kept it up very well including fork
and shock services on a regular basis!

Thanks!
