Could someone illuminate this for me. I never understood exactly
why his punishment reached the level it did.
I may be mistaken, but it is my understanding that Pete Rose never
bet against his own team. I understand that what he did was against
the law, but it seems more a case of "personal abuse" than criminal
activity. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.
Regardless of his situation and what people think of him, he will
always be a model of intensity, hustle, and determination on the
baseball field. He was one of the best baseball players of all time,
and deserves a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I think the reasoning (cause) behind the severity of Pete's
punishment ties closely into the same reason that the endangered
species act could be blown out of proportion and used against the
people like it is. The herd mentality, political correctness, the
ability of "leaders" to use the herd mentality to manipulate
situations to their advantage, and the people's fear of being the
victim of that herd mentality seem to hold sway over many facets of
our lives today. (Think lynch mob, the McCarthy BS of the 50's, or
public crucifixion by the press.)

congress regulated baseball... they are know for
the disproportional enforcement of rules..
(take the latest savings & loans scandal)...
I would much rather seen congressional investigations
into the actions by congress that lead up to the
potential trillion dollar dept you & I are going to
be responsible for... BUT NOooo they want
to have hearings on steroid use?? & gambling

I can't say Jim but I agree he deserves it. I'm guessing it was an empire
building thing with the commissioner... "bow down to my authority". Utopias
don't exist... his track record speaks for itself.

It's a perfect storm of effects and imo, there's not possible way to fix
it.
