So you have soft loam on top of hardpack. Try the Dunlop 756. I
think it transitions well from hardpack to loam very well.

I saw two guys running the 756 yesterday. I really wish I had some
cover, the movie camera would have been fun. When we got to the track,
it was pouring, and aside from one truck leaving, there was only one
car in the lot. The mouse unloaded and dressed but only did three laps
before coming off for a while until things dried out a little and some
more riders showed up to help. The rain came on and off all day and it
was a real splatter fest but somehow the Mouse was the only one who
did not go down once all day and she stayed out in the worst stuff,
slipping and sliding up and down the jumps. I wanted her to come in a
couple of times, but she said it was "good experience", and fought on
through. We had a radar watcher at home and a little portable tv to
watch the radar at the track and the heavy stuff pretty much worked
around us, but toward the end of the day, it opened up. The guys next
to us came off first. One kid came off and complained of being cold,
his brother came off a lap later with fogged goggles, but the Mouse
stayed out for another ten laps or so. The day ended with the two of
us standing there in a torrential downpour deciding if it was worth
the extra 20 mins till the track closed.. Heavier and heavier the rain
came, we finally loaded up and headed out.. Although she had been
there longer than anyone at that point, she still had the cleanest
uniform. Quite a day for us 'rents though, slipping and sliding around
the track in tennis shoes, helping kids get out of the mud, restarted,
and flagging the corners.. All in all great day, but it would have
been better if we had a better set of tires, going looking today to
find some Dunlops.

Now my next question. Do I change the tires myself, or do I have to
have it done at a shop.. and not to sound too noobish, but are they
tubed, or just beaded at the seam?

Thanks again, Scotty.

Tubes and learn to do it yourself. Go slowly, use rounded tire
irons and lots of soap or WD-40 or whatever your favorite might
come to be. Keep a spare tube as you're going to pinch one or
eight while learning to do it.

It's an art.
