John, Murray and I spent the weekend camped near the Pine/Feathervile
road, our intention was to ride the terrain on the south side of
Baumgartner. John and I had been up there twice before and had some
success but ultimately ended up getting turned around due to either
high water, snow or deadfall. On Thursday Murray brought his bike to
my place and we installed our fork mount chain saw rack. At least this
time we weren't going be stopped by deadfall...

We got out of camp early on Sat, had a great ride, cut lots of
deadfall, had some high water turn us around on one trail (Middle Fk
of Lime) and snow on another (Bremner). 63 miles total.

Sunday morning we were moving a bit slower, left camp a little later.
One of our goals was to ride up Bremner to get past the snow that
stopped us the day before.

We get to the first creek crossing, it's high and running fast. After
a careful survey I give it a go. I had to dab once but it really
wasn't quite as bad as it looked.

John was next, made it about 3/4 of the way and dropped the bike. As I
watched from the other side, he managed to hit the kill button before
the motor died from sucking water but when he tried to lift the bike,
both he and the bike started floating downstream.

I jumped in and did my best to stop them from going any further but
the power of the water was just too much. Now John, the bike and I are
being dragged along with the current. About this time I figured I
wasn't going to do any good in the creek so I let go and headed for
the opposite bank, yelling for Murray to try to catch John before he
went any further, ya know downstream where it started to neck down and
get really deep. Where we were it was only just below my crotch deep
and pretty damn cold, having been snow the day before... :)

By the time I managed to drag myself up the cutbank and get over to
where John was, he and Murray had him stopped, upright and mostly out
of the creek.

It took us about 30 minutes to get the bike de-watered and running but
his tranny had about as much water as oil in it. We headed back to
camp where John ran about 4 qts of oil through his bike before it
started coming out clean. Now it's about 1:00, off we go for another
whack at it. We went upstream a few hundred feet where it was wider
but not as deep and made the crossing without incident. After the
second start we ended up with a great ride. (73 miles)

Ya wouldn't catch no XR650L floating downstream... of course you might
be under it still!

That stuff is just too awesome.
