Many of the weekend races this season are way far away from home. I
will need to outfit up for weekend camping from CT to Maine, from now
into late September. Can you folks suggest gear, distributors etc and
talk about why you carry the equipment you carry when camping. I will
not be bike camping, just at the races, all gear will be carried in,
in the truck and we will be camping in the parking lots of the MX
tracks..

Thanks for all your input, we are starting a new season, updates of
the two races so far to come...

How much are you looking to spend?  Camping gear can be pretty cheap
to crazy expensive.  I think a small travel trailer is the way to go
if you can afford it.  You can use normal bedding.  They have a small
kitchen and bathroom.  Very nice if your gonna be camping all the
time.

My main camping items are.

*Tent
*Sleeping bags
*lantern and flashlights
*camp stove and utinsels
*camp chairs
*plenty of water

I bought most of what I have at Wal-Mart.  If I was doing remote
camping where my life may depend on these items, I probably would buy
higher quality items, but that is not the case.  Wally world stocks a
resonable amount Coleman products, which is what my sleeping bags,
stove and lantern are.

Shop on,

I second Mike's trailer advice. It's awful sleeping on tents and
racing after. At least with me, it's not a perfect sleeping night on a
tent.

I always stay at a cheap hotel/motel when racing out of town... To me
it's cheaper and easier. All the stuff on the car, bike(s) on rental
open 3 rail trailer, check in, sleep, go race, shower (hot,
comfortable), check out, drive home. There is always a hotel/motel
near the race sites...

what about replacing your current bike trailer with a slightly bigger,
with enough space for two or three bikes and just enough for two or
three narrow beds? That way you'd be more protected from weather and
would have a more safe, comfy and private place to stay.

tent camping is only fun once a year, at most... you know, there are
bears out there... ;-)

I have a small enclosed trailer that I carry the bikes in.
I put my cot in there and the bikes under the EZup for the
night.  Then I have a good, big sleeping bag that I can stretch
out in.  I don't like those mummy things.  If the weather is
less than a monsoon, I might sleep under the EZup with the
bikes, on the cot of course.

You can get an EZup with walls, that would work fairly well too.
Just not good for a monsoon as it'll blow down.

Coleman stove and some flashlights and I'm ready.

Plenty of bananas.

Go fast. Take chances.
