2000 Honda XR80R
It needed some love. Don't we all?
I'm going to paint the frame, probably just trying to get close to the
factory silver.
The slide is stuck in the carb. I do not remember that being the case
when I picked up the bike. Must investigate... very carefully. WTF?
The previous owner clearly does not own a torque wrench. The fork
clamp bolts were so tight I thought I'd snap something. That is wrong.
I also must weld on a lower mounting tab for the right plastic side
panel. Hmmm, no other year or model shares this frame. How special. It
would be nice to gleen some measurements or photos from a good frame
if anybody has a 2000 XR80R laying around.
While the chassis had evolved, many of the engine parts from the 1980
model turn out to be spares for the 2000 model.
Volker, just for the record, there are at least a dozen more important
things I should have done. Skewed priorities are my specialty. At
least I'm the one doing the skewing this week, so that's good. And the
bike will be as fresh as a country road after a spring rain. A
benevolent diety would approve... maybe.
Have a lovely day (or evening, depending on your time zone).

I have a 2001 XR80R laying around, if that helps. The body work is
different, as '01 is when the fake shrouds came into vogue, but are
you sure that the frames are different? I didn't think anything
changed mechanically for the last 75 years.

I am only as sure as the folks at Partsbandit.
Your NH146M frame fits 2001 through 2003 XR80R and XR100R.
Oh, but look, my frame is also a NH146M...
It's about the paint.
You have "accurate silver metallic".
I have "generic silver rattle can".
Excellent.
Because a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll send you a photo of
the broken part and you'll be able to see what measurements or
pictures I need.
TIA. You da man.

The slide is out. Penetrating lubricant and patience solved it with
solvent.
Whoooo! I guess this is race gas. Love that smell.
Do they make green race gas? I seem to remember they are color coded.
I wonder how many people have seen the green and assumed it's
premix...
hmmmmm....
Race gas in an otherwise stock XR80R. That's rich.

Uh, that's the color that crappo ethanol gas turns once it goes bad.
I suggest you stop by WalMart and wipe out their stock of Supertech
carb cleaner.
Waiting on your photo(s).
