...yes, I said Yellow:

I want to check it out tomorrow (err...today?). Tell me what I should
look for, listen to, give the 'once-over' to....looks like a good
bike, but looks can be deceiving. I value your insight on the SV's.
Also, what knobbies should I look at that'll handle the off-road
enduro duties?

I have been looking into buying a new street bike and the SV650 was/is
on the short list with the VFR topping the list for me. But, if I
find the right deal.....

The price on that SV is a little high. You can do better if you wait.
Check all the things you do on a dirt bike. The stock forks on the
SV650 will clunk when you hit big bumps, and it's normal. Many have
replaced the front end with that off of a GSXR600/750. I rode an
SV650 with the GSXR front end for about 20 miles 0f twisty roads.
Power was what I call friendly. It has plenty of "go" within reason.
After getting off of the Concours, the SV650 was like jumping on a
super fast moped with the weight difference. It was very nice to
change lines within a sweeper at a whim. The Concours requires a plan
to do such things.

LOL, that's what Tami said, Mike. Talked to her this morning. I was
going to go down there this afternoon and try to low-ball the dealer.
That price is ridiculous for a 6 yo bike. If he won't budge, I'll
just go to the other dealer & buy a new one. I can have it paid off
by January.

Yup, too expensive.

Looks pretty much stock, which is good.

It has frame sliders on both sides, so those "custom bars" may be
hiding damage from being dropped. They look like clip-ons; the naked
SV's have superbike-type bars, while the S model has clip-ons.

The aftermarket steel-braided front brake lines are routed
incorrectly...very sloppy, and a possible indication of the level of
service it has received in the last 13k miles.

Is that oil on the ground under the oil filter?

The case cover looks funny in the photo, like it has oil dripping down
it or something; can't quite tell what's going on there in the photo,
maybe it's just scuffing from a boot or something.

I'd buy a new one before spending $4k on this one.

My suspension is stock and doesn't go "clunk." You will hear noise
from the headlight cowling (which the `02 doesn't have) on big bumps,
but the forks do not make noise.

Well, I was going on the words of 2 SV riders from the group ride I
did and the things I read in magazines and the internet. They say the
forks aren't horrible, it's just that they can be much better.
