HellSickle relays his trailer smashing experience:

So I'll relay mine.
Tail ended and smashed the doors on my 5' x 8' Haulmark enclosed
trailer. Had to saw the latch to get the doors open but no
other damage, just the doors and door frame. I've used it several
times since the accident and it works, just ugly and the latch
only latches on the top but it's plenty useable.
Driver was towing a big motor home under contract. I contacted
his insurance company who assured me I was covered and they'd
get it handled - "take it to a Haulmark dealer and get an estimate:"
I did - $1571.00 ! for a $2100 (new) trailer. Then the surprise. Got
a letter saying that the guy wasn't covered as he was working.
I needed to contact his employer (Horizon Transport) who had to
cover it. Yikes.
So I called Horizon, they had my name already as the insurance
company had called them to make sure the driver was working and
not towing his own trailer, in which case the insurance would have
covered it.
Horizon had me send them the estimate and then told me to take
it to the dealer for repair. When I talked to the dealer, he wanted
the
trailer there for the whole 6 weeks of getting the new doors. He
wouldn't get a check until it was done and wanted some collateral.
So I called Horizon back and suggested they send me $1500 and
I'd sell what's left of this and just buy a new one. They agreed and
I had the check two days later (this Monday).
Then yesterday the Horizon manager calls me and says he's found
me a trailer local to them (they are in trailer building heaven of
Elkhart, IN) exactly like mine for $1800. And he says he'll find
one even cheaper if I give him a few days.
Wow!
I'm thinking right now that I'm going to call him off as he's done
everything I could have expected and I'm not sure I *want* a new
trailer. I owe the Haulmark dealer something for all the work he
did on the estimate/calling the insurance / Horizon and then
not buying anything from him. So maybe I'm going to have him
fix the latch and install a vent and just live with the ugly. Doesn't
make sense to do more on a 20 year old trailer.
Else I really need to buy a new one from him. I'll be discussing with
him though. Maybe he knows somebody that wants a beater and
has time to play with the cosmetics themselves. Mine and $1500 might
get a new one from him.
In any case, a couple scary insurance moments but all in all not
too bad.
Go fast. Take chances.

Sounds like a great deal, pics?
