As the proud owner of two large bore Honda xlrs with no spark in
either, I was looking at some threads on TT and found one with
excellent descriptions and photos of a re=soldering to the cdi box
backside on these bikes. Apparently this poor soldering condition
exists in lots of these bikes and that leaves the only repair to
replacing the expensive unit with another equally fallible. This blog

Yep, I'm not sure you have to desolder everything and then resolder,
reflowing the solder with an iron and adding a bit of solder would
probably work fine as well.

Key test is to have no sparky, womp on the CDI, and you get spark!

An easy test to rule out the safeties (on the 650L) is to ground both
wires that go to the clutch switch.
