Hey Dave! Deeney just picked me up a Pirelli Scorpion 90/90-21M/C
54RM+S as a prize in our dirt-bike club (www.nctr.net)
I did a RMD search on the tire, and your name popped up (Meriden Poker
Run!). This tire looks pretty aggressive, and is doesn't say "Not DOT
Approved", so I assume it's also a DOT tire. Since you're the only one
who's name popped up, how is the tire for dirt, roots, rocks, and all
that other crap we ride on? If it's not very good, Jeff says it'll
make a great Ice Screw tire - lots of pointy knobs to accept a little
screwing! Whad'ya think?

The scorp pro front I had was good, I just didn't get along good with
it because it was a low-profile front.
It seemed to turn just fine, but going easy it would wash out- probably
a consequence of putting it on a 350lbs bike with a 225lb rider. It did
reward aggressive riding, dove into turns greedily, but you had to
follow up on its initial attack on the turn.
On the street, it was much easier to get it to lock up than an MT21 or
an MT18 HD.
My guess is with ice screws you just have to be a little gentle with
the braking if you're on ice, or the knobs would fold like they would
on the street.
Damn, I miss the terrain in CT.
If you end up liking it, I have a barely used one here. I took mine off
and replaced it with the MT18 I got from Jim Cook (which I ordered just
for the MMC event, but it got delayed).

?!?!?!?!
Even with screws, how can you get enough traction on the
ice to "Fold" a knob? Especially on a front tire.

We don't stop riding because we get old, we get old because we stop riding.

I thought a good ice screw would grab really good on nice, clean ice.
Like a frozen lake.
No?
I've only had the L on a frozen lake once, and that was sans screws...
Anyway, the knobs seemed to fold easy on pavement (at least with all
the weight on my front), if ice screws don't give all that much
traction, it won't be a problem.

You'll never "fold" a knob for any reason, on pavement or otherwise.
