My 04 GasGas 300. I'm not sure how suspension is suppose to feel on these
things but I have my forks set all the way stiff on compression and have not
touched my shock. When I jump off a 3 foot ledge and land flat both ends
bottom.  Is this common or do I need to get some work done on my suspension.
Bike was bought used so not sure if suspension has been worked on or
serviced. Thanks for any help guys.

I think most of it depends on YOUR weight. I am not sure about todays
trials bike suspensions, but that sounds like what would happen on the
bikes in the 70's with an average weight of 180 lbs. I would assume
that todays would be much better due to the fact they are more
adjustable and the bikes weigh less. If you weigh 300 lbs, disregard
this. :-)

On several occasions, I've asked the question about working on the
suspension (i.e. change the components for a new rider weight/mission) for
trials bikes with the answer always being "no", and that there is very
little in terms parts to beef up the suspension. One party directed me to
some famous trials rider who answered in email there aren't many parts
available. I suffer your "3-foot effect" when crossing a 3" sapling, but
then you ain't me, you lucky sob. I think in your case, this will turn out
to be normal trials bike behavior and your legs are the big part of your
suspension. The suspension issue is probably 80% of the reason the Beta
been parked in the barn and not used after the initial 4-6 hrs of screwing
around with it.

What components does the Beta use?  My Scorpa uses Paioli and
Marzocchi.  I was unable to find a different spring for the shock
during a 5 minute search just now.  Didn't check for fork springs.

If you'd like, I can give a local suspension guy I've used several
times a call.  I do seem to recall him saying the only thing he'd
do for my trials bike was seals and fluid though.  I know the
Scorpa puts all the compression in one fork and the rebound in the
other.  From the parts diagrams I was just able to get off the
Beta site, it *looks* like this may be your case as well.

I've talked with the guys in the Beta supply chain... I'm pretty convinced
it's not changeable. Since my weight/fitness apparently are unchangeable
too, there appears to be a bike-"rider" mismatch:) Thanks for offering... I
really appreciate it. If you ever slip past our defenses along the southern
border, you're more than welcome to ride it.
