So, not having reasonable riding time available The Mouse and I have been doing
the gym thing this off season. Her goal is to straighten out her shoulder and
get in shape for the season. Mine is to be able to take off my shirt without
making women and small children, throw up a little and of course be in better
condition to support her during those long camping weekends at the tracks.
Do any of you do a regular workout in the off season, and if so, what do you
do?
Rowdy Mouse Racing, I have a huge chest, it just slipped down a foot or so in
the last couple of years!

I like the gym. Unfortunately can't always get there. I worked out
hard from last Jan to about May. Then wasn't able to get back into it
until now. There are many approaches you can take from single set
routines to 3 or 4 sets. Last year I was doing 4 sets of a lot of
exercises after work. It took a good 1.5 to 2 hours to do. I was doing
splits so I could work out 4 or 5 days a week and also swimming at
lunch 3 or 4 days a week. I got my routines off the internet... it was
a site that let me put in how many days I wanted to work out and what
I wanted to do... gain muscle, lose fat, etc. If I can find the link
I'll add it later.
This year I'm starting with a single set full body routine for about
30 minutes worth about 3 days a week (I hope). I'm keeping the
swimming too (which I've been doing pretty regular for 2 years). If I
get a chance to go to the gym on an off day, I'll spend some time on
the rowing machine and elliptical trainer. The swimming is my constant
because lunch hour is the only time I can control. Wife, daughter and
life impede on before work and after work opportunities.
Anything done correctly is better than nothing. Don't choose too
ambitious of a routine when beginning... you'll burn out and hate it.
A few compound exercises that work multiple muscle groups can give you
a good total body workout in a short amount of time. Exercises like
squats, bent over rows, pull downs, and dead lifts for example.

Oh... and don't stop in season. You may have to cut back a little, but
try to maintain what you have gained until the next off season.

I know i should, and if i could i would, but my lazyness and stressfull
circumstances have made a conspiracy to keep me from that.
Here is hoping good times will make things (and me) better.
Grtz, PymerOne.

I gotta' tell you, this gym stuff is pretty cool. Today for instance The Mouse
and I got on the computerized workout bikes and instead of the normal course,
we played a video game. Normally the machine lets you pick a course and its in
front of you on the flat screen. You have pacers which you can set effort speed
on and other racers. You steer the bike and change gears as elevation and
course conditions change. The computer steps up the resistance based on the
gear and incline, decline in elevations portrayed on the screen. The new one
today was like a video game however, you chase dragons and coins around a
fantasy city with ruts, and elevation changes, ditches, etc. If you hit a hill
in too high of a gear or to slow, you pretty much stop and have to turn back
and get a better run at it. It was a great workout actually.
After I got off the bike, I did a top end circuit of three sets. Triceps, Bi's,
lats, pecs, and then wrist curls facing up and down with weights. Then I went
and did a quick long muscle set on the quad machine. When The Mouse came off
the bike (she rides longer than me) I put her through the circuits I had just
done, three sets each, a quick five minutes at the stretching web and done
before noon.. Yeah, time for a beer, just kidding.
Looking forward to spring and playing with my (new to me) 125KX, yeah.
Rowdy Mouse Racing, God bless yogurt!..
