Just got an update on Raegen Harrold and it's good news, she woke up
last night and was responding to questions. She's been moved from the
ICU to the children's wing. Thanks for all the prayers, and good Karma.
I am sure it's going to be a long recovery, but she is past the worst
part. She also broke her arm, but that is nothing..

For those of you who may have missed the original post. Raegen crashed
in Maine Sunday and was pretty much out for a day or two... She spoke
last night when asked if she recognized the girl next to her and she
said, "Tammi, my sister". I believe the risk of brain swelling has
passed in the eyes of the doctors.

Glad to hear the good news.
As far as Jess saying that such injury is inevitable, perhaps she
needs to add a new hero to her list. I just read Phil Hill's obit at
the barber shop while waiting.

" in the deadliest-ever era of motorsport, he never broke a bone or
shed a drop of blood"

Like you said, I bet he was a smart rider. Jessi is a smart rider too in
my mind, but there is always other forces involved. She has been really
holding back in the hole shots lately learning the new riders I guess,
but passing during the races. I know she is still nervous on the big
bike although when you see the video, you will see how good she looks on
it too. Jessi knows however to get where she wants to be, she is going
to have to step it up a notch or two this season, get the kind of speed
her friends get, take the chances they take too... This last weekend she
came in 5th out of 9, would have gotten fourth save a last lap stall,
all coming from the rear of the field.

I am getting her as ready as I can. We do cardio and circuit at the gym,
careful diet, study "film", clear head for race day and during the week,
good sleep, and stretching, stretching, stretching. I joke with her
about the stretching saying (while holding my hand behind my ear)
"Someday your leg will be over here, the thing is I am trying to make
sure you can get it back where it goes and ride away without a medical
procedure when it does;)". Another thing we work on is tumbling in the
yard. Twice so far I have been able to tuck and roll away from crashes
(intentionally) and pop up with my shoulders and elbows intact because
of that. That is to say I was able to make the decision and execute
while I was going over the bars. Once I didn't tuck in time, but I
tried, I consider that a victory too. She is working on the same things,
hopefully we can keep her head off the ground like that.

I can give her the tools, she has to supply the "chesticles"!

Thinking of Raegen Harrold and Rodney Lynch, get back soon...

Dean H notes:

Saw the doc re: my shoulder yesterday and in answer to my
question "any restrictions, can I ride?" he said "no restrictions
but be smart about it"  Like I'm even remotely capable of that.

Glad to hear about Raegen.  That's really good new.

Go fast. Take chances.

Usually when I leave for a ride, my wife says, "Have fun and be
careful..."

My reply: "Pick one..."
