I've always used kerosene. There must be something else that's as effective
but not as nasty.
Any other ideas?

I've tried the NoToil route & kerosene & mineral oil but I'm back to
Gasoline. There's always plenty of it around and the used stuff is
easy to get rid of.

Gas to break up the oil, then i wash it clean with the hose.

I hope you guys who clean with gas at least wear gloves. The stuff they
put in gas to replace lead is even nastier than lead. Not something you
want absorbed through your skin or your lungs.
