Got a friend with a similar one for sale.  I'll get particulars if you

 xr's are hard to kill
but given 15 years or so there is
a possibility that this one has been
neglected... check the wheel hubs
for play. steering stem for slop
if the motor starts easy, no odd sounds
and doesn't smoke should be okay..

you could do a compression test
peer down the sparkplug hole with
a boreascope and check for cylinder wear

but for 600 bucks if it runs and the rest
of the guys stuff in his garage doesn't
look beat to hell then I'd buy it

I think it's a reasonable question.  If you're going to have to dump a pile
of money into it to get something that suits your needs, then it's not
worth $50 to me.

Not commenting on this bike, just bikes in general.
