Here in the high desert rain is rather unusual. We did get enough by
Saturday night to wet the whole area down nicely. Sunday morning I
couldnt get my riding buddies to go for a spin so I went by myself. I
have never experienced this good of riding conditions in the desert in
my forty or so short years of riding. My poor worn out Dunlop 756 was
sufficent to go anywhere with relative ease and giving me a new sense
of confidance I have never experienced. I rode almost to the base of
the high Sierras and back to my truck again with a big grin on my
face. My IT 175 never missed a beat and delivered me to places that
would have been a nightmare before. I just hope that all of you folks
had as good a weekend.

I'm glad you got to experience velcro traction. That reminds my of
the Colorado Spodefest outside Divide, CO. It stormed violently on us
all, but the traction was incredible. I experiened similar traction
conditions near Moab and it was wonderful.

We were up in the Johnson Valley area. Wind was blowing pretty good.
It has been alot worse, but wind blowing that much dust makes it hard
for everything. Went for a ride with the family, about 15 of us. I
pushed it to hard the first time out. This old body just cant handle
those whooooops like it use to. Traction was ok.
Rained a bit late Sat night. Wind all night long. Wind blew too hard,
kicking up too much dirt/dust that I didnt even want to cook outside.
Wind continued Sunday morn. Didnt ride Sunday. Yes, I was hurting.
Shoulders, arms, legs and lower back. Everyone else went out and said
they had a blast. Missed the good day I guess.
Overall, windy, 75ish all weekend. Its always good to get out, even if
you just watch the grandkids ride.
Lil Dave, (10 year old) took two good spills. Going out to the sand
dunes, he took a spill. He rides a Honda 70, terrible suspension. He
use to ride a 50 with great suspension. Going over some whoops,
pushed the front end right into one of them. Endoed it right over.
Got up like a trooper, dusted himself off. After we figured out he
was ok, he took off again. Minor damage to the bike, broken front
brake lever. No real problems.
Next day, Sunday, he was booking it across the dry lake bed, coming to
a stop. We figured he locked it up and real wheel kept sliding and
was about ready to pass him when he flipped. Bike landed on his hand.
A couple a quad riders were near him, they were girls, and again he
got up, dusted himself off and with that attitude, I am good I am
good, the girls smiled at him and checked him out. Then Momma came
over on the quad. Here comes the tears. Apparently, the bike landed
on his right hand, right on his thumb. Looked like he took a hammer
and HIT it square on the thumbnail.
Iced it down, he calmed down. Asked if he could watch TV in the
motorhome cause it was such a trauma. Kids...
Mom is at the doctor now, just being safe. Dont think its broken.
Anthony, the 11 year old, is riding a Honda 80 now. Five gears and
shifting. He had a blast. They grow up so quick. They will soon be
on the TTR125 and the Honda 150 before I know it.
Anyways, Starting to ramble now. Was a fun weekend, even with the
wind.

Hey Bill I am glad to hear ya'all had a good time. Even if
it was spent with the wind gods of the So Cal Desert.
Your weekend was way betther than mine.....
I spend a good part of it in the Emergency Room and
on the phone with my Auto Insurance Co.
My GF Betsy picked up some god forsaken flu bug and
is so sick she can hardly move to puke.
I take her to the ER for the second time this weekend and
while I am waiting. I look out in the parking lot and see that
the rear drivers side 1/4 panel of my truck is smashed like
a hard boiled egg. Some scum bag ran into it and split.
Crappy way to spend a Halloween weekend. Hope she
get better soon. Poor thing.
