XL600R won't start

 I was ready to pack it up and hook up my truck to my motorhome and
leave for Oregon today. I tested the coil on the 600 and no good.
Bought another coil but still wouldn't start. No spark. Expensive. I
am dow to the stator or the CDI box or both. Decisions. I will park
the diesel pig in storage and take the '77 Yamaha DT250 instead. I
would like to ride the Usal road n Northern California and might need
the bike to be dual sport. OF

 my xr had a bad sparkplug connection right
where the boot met the top of the plug...

I cut the wire and added a new boot/clamp thingy

 
Spark plug cap resistor?
