I've been trying to figure out whats wrong with my bike for a
while now. I have a 1986 Yamaha DT200 2 stroke. The bike has a problem
with the clutch being so grabby I can barely ride it on the street, its
embarrassing. When the bike warms up i let the clutch out very slow and
right near the end it grabs so hard that the bottom end makes a horible
grunt/ whine and the bike almost stalls. I have been riding bikes for
19 years now so i know its not me. I took the clutch apart and checked
everything, everything is perfect actualy everything looks like its
brand new . The bike only has 4200 kms on it and has clearly not been
abused.
I just bought the bike a few months ago and have since done a
new top end, pipe, boysen reeds and re-jetted the carb. This cluch
problem is driving me nuts. If any one could even give me a suggestion
it would greatly be appreciated.
Oh yah I use regular 15w45 motor oil, just in case that helps.

                                       Thanks

My trials bike has a very grabby-sticky clutch and an eager to go
impulse  with little hand-clutching effect until I ride it around and
warm it up in 3rd and 4th gear, just enough to turn the engine over
and letting the plates come apart.

The problem with mine is the longer I ride it the worse it gets.
Its such a weird problem, the clutch feels fine, and is adjusted right.
Its starts to roll then bam its like i droped the clutch.

Check if your cable is binding and if your clutch basket is notched.

I imagine you'll have to take the clutch cover off and examine the
clutch plates and basket.
