OK guys and dolls.

Just picked up a running 83 IT 490.  Main problem I have is cracks in
the header part of the exhaust.  Can these be welded or is there a
source anyone knows of to get a new header pipe??

Any help is greatly appreciated.  This thing is a beast and I'm aiming
to tame it..

I was going to say DG, but unless the YZ490 crosses over to the IT, maybe no
help

Nothing on ebay right now except plastic, footpegs, and this which might be
handy

I have never ridden an IT 490 but I hear it has a problem turning.
Cracked pipes on YZs were a constant problem. Guys I knew who rode them
welded on the pipe every week. OF

I remember there used to be a shop that specialized in the resto of old
motorcycles and had parts too. Maybe it was Vintage Iron? The guys in the
Vinduro site on Yahoo groups will know this to a certainty. Another good
resource would be AHRMA. There is also a motorcycle shop out around
Pittsfield MA that has done some beautiful restorations and could probably
steer you in the right direction. I just checked to see if I have the links
but don't. They had some beautiful bikes in inventory the last times I
checked though. Wish I could provide more. Good luck.

Put some fresh gas in it and a new spark plug, cranked and ran on the
2nd kick.. Cruised up my neighborhood street and every gear seemed to
want to bring the front end up.  I can see why it's hard in turns..
heheh..  MUST GET BAFFLES... Yamaha shop, here I come.. I need a
headlight/numberplate, taillight/license plate holder, and a friggin
kickstand.. I have to stand on a milk crate to swing my leg over the
seat..  Once I'm on it, it settles right down to where my feet are on
the ground.. Talk about travel.. Jeez..

Thanks for the help guys.. The wife wants me to help work on her little
MG Midget and all I can think of is taking that monster out to play..
