really dragging, when popping in 1st bike wants to surge forward
and idle rpms drop audibly. Clutch slack is okay (e.g. 1/2" at
lever's end, fanning works fine) What to do:
- change friction plates
- change friction and steel plates
- just change the oil
TIA

- File grooves on clutch basket
- All of the above
My bike has dragging clutch when cold. After it warms up, it stops
dragging. Slightly grooved clutch basket and almost worn out friction
plates, I guess.

I think Tiago hit on the biggest thing when I'm seeing surging is the
notches in the clutch basket. They can be filed out or use a dremel tool.

If it is slightly dragging, not a big worry. You could change the oil
and that might help. I have had many brand new bikes do that when they
are cold and don't do it after they warm up. so changing any of the
plates probably won't help. Usually, a worn or warped plate will cause
it to slip rather than grab. Also, another turn, or two, on the
adjuster may help.

Start with changing the oil. If it's been doing it a lot
*recently*, try another brand of oil.
Then move on to the plates.
How old are the plates?
