Dear all,
in a cosmic scale it doesnt amount to much, but i did put some efford in
improving my ways.
Everyone is always nagging about the non-runners i collected over the years.
Everyone is always nagging about me promising to repair the bikes someday
and never getting around to fix anything more than the ones we ride.
Everybody is always nagging about me theoryzing wrenching without ever
picking up a tool.
Everybody.....ah well, you know what i am trying to say, no?
Son has been eyeballing the mid-sized 65cc4speed2stroke for a while, now he
twisted my arm on my back saying: i cant keep up with you if i ride the mini
4stroke....
So i caved in.
Wrenching in a snow-and-ice backyard or freezingcold shed is a no-go, so I
seduced wifey to grant me wrenching in the livingroom (well, blackmailed
really, but thats another story, AllToGetHer).
Rolled out the sheet of plastic floordecoration, rolled in the bike.
New piston and polished cylinder were on that bike for ages, new
breakerpoints and a sparkplug i stole from another waiting project.
Took me a while to actually get started, old habits die hard.
Flushing the tank, cleaning petcock and carb, replacing fuelline, filling
gearbox and frontfork with fresh oil....and i did hardly get my hands dirty
;)
I made son do all the work, exept for the breakertiming which i did 3 times
to show him my way of finetuning that.
Explained son bumpstart and the art of breaking in a new piston, and we did
a testrun in our street.
Bike ran ok, allbeit slightly rich and the seals on the frontsuspension
badly need replacing...we fix that before we really start riding.
Plasticsheet, tools and bike were stored in the shed again, no marks left in
the room.
Having experienced this little victory for mankind (all party for me), i
did try and find approval for getting my xt550 in the livingroom so i could
work on that a bit too....but that was waaaaay stretching it.
Guess wifey was too shocked by all this to accept yet another outside-bike
to become an inhouse project.
Now we wait for klimatchanges, our ridingseason starts when temperatures are
more agreeable.
Son learned some wrenching tricks, i learned that he has a keen interest in
biketechnology, not only in riding....good kid ;)
Grtz, PymerOne.
