I have a 1986 Honda Spree scooter. It is a 50cc 2 stroke.
The problem is:
It starts right up and idles great, runs fine or a few seconds under
full load and has plenty of power for the first 100+ feet at full
throttle. Then it acts like it runs out of gas. I let off the throttle
before it dies completely and it returns to idle. Let it idle for a
couple seconds and it has full power again.
What I am sure of:
Gas tank clean
Fuel valve is vacuum and works fine. Delivers about 1/2 ounce per sec.
Fuel is getting to carb. I even hooked up another tank directly to
carb.
Carb bowl is full when I dis-assemble it.
Float level is correct.
While bowl was off, I checked float valve, It opens and closes and
lets gas flow to bowl.
main jet is open, for sure.
No removable pilot jet. There is a small brass opening into another
"tube-like compartment in the bowl. I was able to get a small guitar
string thru it, and it allows gas to enter.
I lossened the exhaust to let it breath better, no change
Carb slide is installed correctly and working as it should.
New battery, system is charging.
What I am not sure of:
It has a electric choke ( I think). I don't have a techmanual so I am
not sure exactly how it works. It appears to be some sort of solenoid
valve. It has 2 wires going to it. I put 12v to it and nothing happens
that I can tell. When I dis-conncet it, no change. It could be bad,
but I do have continuity between the leads. Power to it goes thru a
resistor I think, therefore, voltage is only about .3 volts.
I am confused about the choke mechanism. Anybody know about these?
I am also confused why the bowl is full, main jet open, but still bogs
down.
Any ideas?
TIA

Hank,
You got a stopped up gas tank vent?

Oooh. We had that in our van once. "Fixed" a lot of stuff before we found
that. One symptom: Drove fine at 55 on the freeway but we had to be pushed up
an on-ramp.

Not it. I forgot to put that I losened the gas cap in my previous
post.
Nice try tho!
After sitting in my chair thinking about what else I could check, I am
going out to the shop tomorrow and open bowl drain and use the drain
line as a sight gage to see what the level in the bowl is doing as I
run it until it stops. I am hoping that will tell me something.
I did look at parts diagrams and the small 50cc scooters made today
have the same set-up. So, If I don't figure it out tomorrow, I'll call
teh local Honda shop and see if anybody knows anything about the auto-
choke system.

Junior's 65SX would do that when the carb vent line was plugged.
Check out Honda.AU - it seems the Aussies require manufacturers to post
owner's manuals.

One of these models might be close to yours.
