I was victim of theft "pocket picking" last saturday. Some bastard
took advantage on a crowded street and picked my wallet with my
drivers license, my wife's motorcycle registration (registered in
other state), a couple of credit cards and less than 5USD in cash. To
get new credit cards, all I had was to log into the internet banking
website. Driver license was easy, just log into "DMV"(*) website,
print the invoice and they should mail it by the end of the week, easy
as it could be. Now, the registration... I have to drive 650km with no
registration in order to the (other state) "DMV" do an "inspection" on
the bike. Problem is, legally, I can't drive 1 meter, let alone 650km,
without the registration. They don't know how should I proceed. I
called my local "DMV" and they said that I only needed inspection if I
was to transfer it from the other state to this, it isn't necessary if
I am just asking for a copy of the registration, if it was here, all I
had to do was to pay the invoice for the new copy and wait a couple
days. The other state, however, has a requirement of inspection that
can't be fulfilled. If I try riding 650km just for they to look if I
have mirrors and blinkers, I can end up having my (hers...) bike
seized if a cop pull me over. Damn, you bureaucrats who seems to not
have a functioning brain, die you all. You know what'll happen? We are
already in november. Next january registration expires and I have to
do another one. I will ride two months with no registration and try
not getting pulled over by cops, in two months I will have a new
registration and everything will be back to normal.
thanks for letting me vent,
yours truly,
Tiago

copies are not allowed.
did you know it is required that our license plates to be securely
attached to the vehicle body using a security unbreakable seal? I
guess this is the only country in the world with this requirement.
