Okay, I've been watching (with disdain) for the past year and now that
we're less than two weeks away I find that I'm still not really clear
on what the AMA pro classes are going to be and what the schedules
will be like. In fact, I'm finding it difficult to get motivated at
all for the AMA, especially given that their whiz-bang new studio
format means that most races will be televised at *least* one week
delayed. So help me fill in the blanks...
American Superbike. This is a slightly dumbed down version of the
Superbike we know and love, right? Yamaha is fully in with BBoz and
Hayes. Yosh Suzuki is in with Mladin and Hayden. Hodgson will be on
a Corona Honda. Anyone else of note? Jordan Suzuki, I imagine. I
can feel the excitement. I think this race runs on Sunday so it will
always be televised at least one week later on the next Saturday night
show. What potential series sponsor would want to buy into that?
"Daytona" (puke) SportBike. What is this? I know it will be running
the 200. Is this closer to FormulaX or Supersport? Other than Miguel
running the 200 on a privateer Suzuki is there anyone of note running
this class? Is this where we'll find the likes of Herrin, Hacking,
and Zemke? Does anybody really care? Does it run on Saturday or
Sunday other than the Friday night 200? If it runs on Saturday does
that mean it makes the broadcast for that evening? Is that DMG's
backhanded way of guaranteeing that DSB becomes the premier class over
ASB?
There's another 600 class I think called Supersport that is almost
purely stock and only for the young'ns. Also limited to four years of
participation or something like that.
Then there's the mish-mash of their Moto-ST endurance series. That
only runs at selected events though, right?
ASB, DSB, Tiny-tots, and the occasional Moto-ST endurance race. What
am I missing?
