The Aprilia wasn't such a bad bike but it desperately needed R&D work
and there simply wasn't the money to do it. They could have done with
mechanics and a team who knew what they were doing as well. At that time
Aprilia were going under and playing the usual Italian motorcycle
company games as they tried to hang on long enough for Piaggio to buy
them. Piaggio have now sorted that but have their own cash flow
problems. Imagine. Biaggi plus Camel might supply some of that cash.
Black and Silver with a Chesterfield logo, belching flames! yes, please!
But the MotoGP game has moved on and even the awesome top end of the RS3
is now probably low compared with where Honda, Yamaha and even Kawasaki
have got to. Just wheeling out the old bike, even if they manage to fix
the more obvious problems, isn't going to cut it.
Things I'd like to see in 2006:-
- Biaggi signs up with WCM using KTM motors
- Biaggi goes back to 250
- KR-RCV-KRjr on Bridgestones of the same quality as Ducati get. Because
they're probably not going to get the Michelins of the same quality as
the ones Rossi, Hayden and Melandri get.
- Dunlop work out how to make a MotoGP tyre that lasts more than 5 laps.
- KR & KRjr actually find a sponsor.
- Suzuki find some top end power.
- Corser, Lanzi, Bayliss, Barros, Toseland in consistent 5 way battles
with Walker and Laconi snapping at their heels. Woah! We might actually
get this
- Aprilia produce a road bike copy of their 250GP bike using the old
RS250 and the 550 version of their new V Twin.
- KTM produce a road bike copy of their 125GP bike, in orange, using
their 450 MX-SX engine.

Do you reckon Barros won't have the same amount of trouble adjusting to
a Superbike as Bayliss had adjusting to the Honda?

He's got Superbike experience having nearly won Suzuka twice. The
question is whether Klaffi (if that's where he ends up) can provide a
good enough bike for him to show what he can do.
BTW. Virgin-Yamaha will be on Pirellis next year in BSB. Pirelli wanted
a team outside WSB where they could experiment. Virgin-Yamaha wanted a
tyre supplier that could devote time to them. Now what we need is
Pirelli to get into MotoGP and Bridgestone to get into a national SBK
championship.

According to Dunlop's Jim Allen they will have a first rate effort
going next year in MGP on a Yam, as well as maybe D'Antin. He also said
some "not so nice" things about Pirelli and Flamini, though I totally
agree it would be great if the "Stone's" got involved in SBK...
