This may be totally off base, but what about Bayliss winning at
Valencia on the Ducati a couple of years ago? What that after his
stint with Honda in MotoGP?

Right, totally off base. He'd raced the Ducati in MotoGP for two years
and then the one with Honda, he'd been on Michelins from 2000 through
2005, he'd raced at Valencia in both WSB and GP (and was the only guy in
that field who'd been on the track already that season), and he had his
WSB guys there that weekend. Really the only thing that he had in common
with Spies was that he was a MotoGP wildcard.
