Looks like motorcyclist are fair game in limey land too! Damn, the clown
was only a law student, we exempt ex-Governors from culpability when it
comes to killing bikers but a law student? How quaint!

Damn, what a find. On te positive side, at least he had the courtesy to
return the foot to its rightful owner and turn himself in.

It's become shockingly wide-spread that people just drive off. Last weekend
I saw an idiot in a truck back off into a car, and simply drive off. I made
a point to leave a note with the license plate of the track, and my phone
number as a witness. People are incredibly thankful, but it's sad the world
turned as blatantly uncivil. *Twice* people have driven their cars into my
wife's (parked), and no one's ever left a note, of course.

Car drivers suffer just as much from this, it's only that we motorcycle
riders have far more at stake at any point in time...

I don't know if I'd call it courteous to drive away from an accident and
leave someone bleeding to death after you've crushed at least one side
of him, even if he came back later. I can think of some other words
though. He probably turned himself in after he sobered up and realized
what he'd done... I only hope the clown had some real insurance, because
the guy with one leg will surely need some money, for the rest of his
life....

Two things about Europe

(a) It is damn impossible to drive around without insurance - they'll clamp
your vehicle down quite quickly.

(b) There is something called a social network, which means that even when
everything goes wrong you don't quite wind up on the street wrapping a trash
bag around your lower body, as witnessed in San Francisco last weekend... A
luxury lifestyle it ain't, but the government doesn't quite let you wind up
a bum on the street after years of contributing taxes heavily. A shockingly
socialist concept, I know...

I'm familiar with the laws in Europe, I did a couple of 6 month TDY's at
Heathrow and one in Frankfort, I wished they were as aggressively
enforced here.

Not shocking to me but being busted up permanently is something I know a
little about. A traumatic amputation of a limb is a life shattering
event, 99.9% of the time there are other major medical problems as well.
I know of no social program anywhere that could in anyway compensate a
victim of such a brutal event. I spent over $500k, 4 months in the
hospital and 17 major operations(2 to go)because of an idiot with a
suspended license. He got two years in prison, (did 8 months) 10 years
probation and lost his license forever, yeah right. That happened 4yrs
and 3 months ago, he's resumed his life and got his driving privileges
back but I live a "little" differently than I did prior to 12/2/00! I
was "lucky" because he didn't kill me, we both had a boatload of
insurance and he owned a business.(not anymore btw:) It could've just a
well been an illegal alien with nothing! The only consolation I have is
that "I hear" he limps now too and was some big black dude's bitch while
in prison.;) I'm also fortunate that it didn't happen when my kids were
small. No Pablo, if you ride on the street with fools in cars you better
have insurance, a "bunch" of it....But that was then and this is now.
And now the SB's just came out to practice, gotta go........
