If you can believe what's said these day's it may not be a good omen for
more participation in GP. Oh well...

Tor: In a recent interview with MCN you mentioned that 2007 would be the
year of the 800cc. As far as I understand, this involves two new models
based on the F800 and an 800cc MotoGP prototype. Am I correct in saying this
and can you elaborate please?
Dr. Diess: Yes, two more F 800 models are planned. There will definitely be
no MotoGP prototype - that is MCN speculation without any basis in fact.
Tor: Is there an 800cc MotoGP prototype under development and where do you
want BMW Motorrad to go with it? If there is such a MotoGP prototype, when
will BMW race it? What is the schedule of the project, what sort of engine
do you believe in and will we see ground braking BMW technologies in use on
this prototype?
Dr. Diess: As mentioned before, BMW Motorrad is not developing any MotoGP
prototypes.

Hah hah! So there was McWilliams being interviewed between races saying
that he's testing a MotoGp bike (currently 990cc) for a German
manufacturer with blue and white corporate colours that's being built
for them by Orel (sp?) and will be at Goodwood next week. So yes. BMW
Motorrad is not developing any MotoGP prototypes. Somebody else is doing
it for them. And they've got a bunch of ex-KR-Proton people working on
it.
Probably.

So what do you make of that? At some point or another deception, or
misdirection becomes futile, I just hope that was all it was, as I for one
was really looking forward to the Bavarian boy's jumping in with both
feet....

If BMW is considering getting involved with MotoGP, they will likely
keep it under their hat for now. Before they go public, they are going
to want to know if they are going to have a chance at being
competitive. I don't think they wish to publicly embarrass themselves
like Honda and Toyota are doing in FI at the moment. (and BMW, come to
think of it). Doing battle with Yamaha and Honda is no small
undertaking. Like picking a fight in a bar full of Marines, it takes a
bit more preparation than a couple of beers.
Like you, I'd love to see it.
Some kind of twin crank, opposed piston, blown, diesel thingy like
those WWII Jumo aircraft engines and a Hossack front end. It makes the
mouth water just thinking about it. :-)

Oh yeah, they'd lose a little pride if they got their asses handed to them,
but that quote seemed to suggest they've made to decision not give it a go.
Then on the other hand they're planning a couple of new 800's, so I guess
we'll have to wait and see, though if they do it would likely be next year,
so not let the other's get a jump with the new motors...

I would imagine it would be an exotic of some nature..
