Watched the BBC coverage of qualifying from Valencia this afternoon.
While their bloke in the paddock was interviewing either Stoner or
Hayden at the end of qualifying, you could see Dani Pedrosa in the
background, chatting to the Spanish tv chap.
He had a big smile on his face and the two were obviously sharing some
sort of joke. Not at all the image of Pedrosa that we're fed by the
English-speaking media.
I wonder if Pedrosa just comes across as humourless because he is so
wary of journalists who describe him as, well, humourless? It could
quickly become a self-fulfilling prophecy; interviewed in a foreign
language by a journalist you don't trust, it would be hard to be
forthcoming and effusive.
I know that Daijiro Kato was always made out to be quiet and reserved
by the western media, but I saw him clowning about on stage during
the "Suzuka Eve" festival celebrations before the eight hour, chatting
animatedly to the crowd while wearing comedy shades, etc. He was
obviously a very different character to his home fans than the the
Kato that was presented via the international press.

So, you think Dani is the happy-go-lucky type, and his image is some
kind of media conspiracy? I don't buy it. I've seen enough interviews,
and he comes across as someone who just can't seem to appreciate or
enjoy the success he's had so far. The kid's got talent, but that
doesn't make him likeable.
He's no Rossi.

It seems like somebody tuned into the Spanish side of things would have a
true sense about it. Have Noyes or Mamola made a comment either way?

I don't know for sure, but I get the feeling Dani would act a "little"
more human if Puig wasn't always in the picture. Is it me, or does that
guy come off like the Emperor and Dani a young Sith apprentice?

You're not the only one.
