Nah, this season he's definitely been with the also-rans. When the
grid only has 17~19 starters, and less finishers, then being outside
the top 10, which has been more often than not, isn't good enough.
Rossi and Lorenzo have shown that the bike is about the best on the
grid, and while one doesn't expect quite as much from a satellite
team, Colin has shown where the bike ought to be finishing. If
Toseland had kept his job after this season, then *that* would be the
surprise.

Probably. If one cares about such things. Which, as has been well
documented, I don't.

I agree with all of that, but I also think that the teams need to invest
in the future a little more. Edwards, likeable chap that he is, has had
all the chances he'll get. I don't see him winning unless we get another
race like Donington, and even then he didn't.
So Toseland's had a bad year. He's still young and talented. Clearly he's
not getting on with this year's Yam, or maybe it's the tyres but it seems
quick to write him off when there are some old guys in there not setting
the world alight either.
Of course, I'm not the one having to keep sponsors happy, so Poncharal may
not have had much say in the matter. Rumours were that Dorna wanted
Toseland in.
