Displaced and exposed shin fracture.... nasty. That means the bones
are misaligned and bone has broken through the skin - he must be so
angry about something. Not the first time he has broken bones but the
first time he has missed a race because of it.

Yamaha will have to fill that spot. There ought to be a way to do
something interesting with it. And to give one or more up and coming
riders a chance to sample MotoGP. It's really hard though to see how
they can come up with something that works this year and it'll be a
shame if they just put a test rider on it.
Then there's Burgess. What does he do for 8 races?
I assume this doesn't affect the engine allocation? Except that Rossi's
slot could have 3 less race meetings on the engines that everyone else.
That might mean that they can give him a shorter target life engine at
the end of the year when Lorenzo has already won the championship.

If he's out for the year, and I now assume he is they HAVE to replace him,
as the team can only miss 3 races.
I wonder if Edwards will get a shot on the good M1. Or maybe Spies will get
a chance to work with Burgess.

I think the rookie rule still applies to Spies here, so there'd have to
be a special ruling for him to move up. Edwards is the obvious guy to
fill the spot, but that would take the acceptance of Herve and Monster,
I suppose, and that comes down to who replaces him there - some faceless
Japanese tester who runs back with Bautista isn't going to do it. And I
don't think official testers can become replacement riders anyway,
according to the rules.
The obvious guy would seem to be Toseland, especially at Silverstone to
pump the grid, but then you have him back in the Tech 3 garage working
with Coulon, which might be a bit tense. The only conflict between
MotoGP and WSB until they get to Misano is the Assen weekend, so perhaps
a good source. Maybe Crutchlow, although he's pretty green. A good
choice at Barcelona might be Checa, who has worked with Coulon before,
and it would be interesting to see Josh Hayes on it at Laguna. And then
there are a couple old codgers resting up down in Oz...
In any case, a whole new world with Rossi gone, until Brno at minimum,
I'd think. And it throws a monkey into the silly season business, one
would think. Dani's stock would appear to be on the rise as the Honda
gets better (big day for them today), and a championship run would make
Lorenzo even more the primary target of the bidding. If Stoner has
really signed with Honda already he must be having mixed feelings today
- perhaps pulling the trigger too early, but liking what he sees of
those bikes today.
On that score, I think Hondas this weekend looked the best thay have
since 2006, perhaps. Jorge better be prepared for a fight from Dani in
this championship. And the Ducatis had a very tough weekend; Stoner
still doesn't look like getting back in the championship, even with a
run of victories - 66 points down on Lorenzo, 41 on Pedrosa. And will he
ever get that run?
