Damn, waiting for this is hard.
I'm kind of hoping that the first race is Spies, Haga, the rest so that
the championship depends on whoever wins the last race of the year. But
Haga losing the championship on equal points on count back and Spies
winning would be both sad and joyous. It's hard to accept Haga going
down in history as being the guy who never won anything but got closer
to the crown than anyone else.

if Haga can not win it now, with a point advantage and track
familiarity, then it really means that Spies deserves it so much more.
I have no invested sentiment either way. And Spies is moving on next
year, giving Haga yet another year in which to accomplish that goal.
It has been a very memorable showdown. Spies' entrance into the series
accomplished that. Hm. Maybe I am rooting for Ben. :-)

Despite being an avid Haga fan, I would have to agree with that statement.

If Spies wins this weekend he will be only the second rider to win on an
inline four of less displacement than the Ducatis/twins, and the first
in 16 years. He's already broken the season record for fours, and I
believe he will break Bayliss' absolute record if he wins both races on
Sunday. Perhaps not coincidentally, WSB announced changes in the 2010
rules today, and included in those were the reduction of the number of
units required for homologation from 3000 to 2000. Since the Japanese
and BMW will undoubtedly sell more than 3000 units of their bikes, this
change only really impacts Ducati, Aprilia and KTM. And since there is a
separate rule for new manufacturers, it really only applies to Aprilia
and Ducati. And with the Aprilia being new this year, the first new
"cheater" conspiracy bike will almost certainly be built by Ducati, who
have never raced a true mass-production bike in WSB.
Those Italians, they're hardly subtle, are they? Methinks Haga has
little to worry about...

what prevents the other vendors from creating lower volume
homologation specials? Honda has certainly done that before. but
perhaps people with $50k to shell out prefer the Ducati brand on it. i
have no idea - and that would be market economy, just like Ferrari can
afford to race (and win) in F1 despite being a low volume vendor.
