So does the Ducati 1098 get a weight penalty or not? I can't see any
press releases one way or the other and the calculation takes too much
effort...

Somebody else has done this for me. Apparently the event average of the
top two twins is 3 points ahead of the top 2 fours. So Ducati get no
weight penalty and another 3 races before the calc is done again.
The championship points are a bit deceptive. Bayliss is out front due to
his consistency as much as his wins. All his rivals keep falling off or
having bad days. 3 races in and it doesn't feel like Ducati really have
an unfair advantage. They've had one or more bikes up front but then so
have the fours. And the fours seem to have the top speed edge at the
moment.

I was wondering about this as soon as Checa took out Max.
We don't get to see Race2 until today here in the USA, so I figured they'd
mention it during the broadcast.
Thanks for the info.
